[NEW MEXICO]. First edition. 8vo. Signed by the author. Pictorial stiff wrappers,[2], 113 pp., introduction, illustrated, maps, chapter end notes, index. "The story of a building, its people, and its place. The building sits on a lot next to the plaza. The lot is terreno de solar, a grant to a Mexican citizen by the state of Chihuahua, Mexico, on which to build a house. By the terms of the grant, the grantee is obliged to own a horse and a gun. Within a year or so the grantee - and his lot - are no longer in Mexico - they are both in the United States." Over time a merchant buys the home and opens a store. He sells to his partner, who opens Samuel Bean & Company. During the Civil War the Union denounces Bean as a "Johnny Reb," and confiscates the store. John Davis eventually buys the property and establishes the most famous hotel in New Mexico Territory, the Corn Exchange. After the death of John Davis and later his wife, the property is sold and becomes the Billy the Kid Museum. Later it is sold to Katy Griggs for $1 and she opens the most famous eating place in southern New Mexico, La Posta. A most interesting and informative booklet about Mesilla, its buildings, history, and people. As new, unread copy.

In-4°, pp. 52, brossura editoriale con titolo entro duplice filettatura. Dedica autografa al piatto anteriore del curatore Antonio Cappelli ad Augusto Conti. Il Conti (San Pietro alle Fonti, San Miniato, 1822-Firenze, 1905) filosofo cattolico, fu professore di storia della filosofia all'Istituto di studi superiori di Firenze e all'Università di Pisa, nonché Arciconsole della Crusca. Come filosofo fu più un forbito divulgatore di questioni speculative che un pensatore originale; il suo sistema filosofico è infatti una tardiva riproposizione di motivi tomistici che volle affiancare la restaurazione della teologia di San Tommaso d'Aquino caldeggiata da Leone XIII). Il Cappelli, studioso modenese morto nel 1887, fu bibliotecario della Biblioteca Estense della sua città. Sparse fioriture, restauri alla brossura. Edizione originale di questa cronaca quattrocentesca relativa alla congiura ordita dai Pio, Signori di Carpi, contro Borso d'Este Marchese di Ferrara, pubblicata per le cure del Capelli a distanza di quasi quattro secoli dalla data della sua stesura. Nel volume sono riprodotti anche documenti inediti e componimenti poetici relativi alla congiura e alla successiva carcerazione dei congiurati. Estratto dal II vol. degli Atti e Memorie delle RR. Deputazioni di Storia patria per le provincie modenesi e parmensi). Non comune.

Troisième des éditions vénitiennes donnée par Giolito. Très rare au format in-4. Comme l'édition in-12 de la même année, plus courante, elle fait suite à celles de 1546 et 1548. Belle illustration: titre au phénix couronné de Giolito, portrait-médaillon, 10 grandes vignettes in-texte (100 x 60mm) et nombreuses lettrines ornées à figures, le tout gravé sur bois. Les compositions des vignettes, finement exécutées et placées en tête de chaque journée, ont pour sujet la joyeuse compagnie au sein de laquelle s'échangent les anecdotes lestes ou spirituelles en quoi consistent les célèbres contes. L'édition reprend telle quelle la dédicace de 1546 à Catherine de Médicis -elle est née en 1519 et donc âgée d'une trentaine d'années- qui n'est pourtant plus dauphine de France, comme l'écrit Giolito, mais reine depuis trois ans déjà. Sous le portrait au verso du feuillet *3 se trouve reproduit le sonnet de Lodovico Dolce en l'honneur de Boccace. Très bel exemplaire en reliure française du XVIIIesiècle. Quelques restaurations à la reliure. Brunet, Manuel de l'amateur, I, 1000-1001. - Essling, Livres à figures vénitiens, n°658, pour l'édition de 1548. - Mortimer-Harvard, French Sixteenth Century Books, 71, décrit pour 1550 l'édition in-12 dont il souligne qu'elle est rare tout en signalant celle-ci qui, en fait, l'est encore plus: 5 exemplaires dans les fonds publics en Italie, 3 en Angleterre et aucun en France.

Prachtvoll gebundenes Widmungsexemplar der Reinschrift einer für uns nicht nachweisbaren Komposition von Campioni (wohl Santo Campioni) für ein Libretto des bekannten italienischen Librettisten und Dramatikers Simeone Antonio Sografi (1759-1818). Obwohl Sografi aus einer Familie berühmter Chirurgen in Padua stammte, schloss er zunächst ein Jurastudium ab und praktizierte als Anwalt (daher wohl auch der Zusatz "av." für avvocato auf dem Titelblatt). Nach seinem Umzug nach Venedig schrieb er Komödien, Dramen und Libretti für die erfolgreichsten Opernkomponisten seiner Zeit. "After the fall of the Venetian Republic he returned to Padua, where he built a theatre in the garden of his home and served as writer, director and impresario for ist amateur troupe" (vergl. Oxford Music Online und Enciclopedia Italiana, 1936, Art. Sografi). Sein hier vorliegendes Libretto wurde von einem wenig bekannten Komponisten vertont: Auf dem Titelblatt wird dieser ohne Vornamen genannt; es könnte sich aber um den Triester Cellisten Santo Campioni handeln, der auf einem anderen Libretto von Sografi als Cellist genannt ist (Ercole al termodonte, ossia Ippolita regina delle Amazoni. Dramma del sig. Avvocato A. S. Sografi, Trieste 1791, S. 3 - für den Hinweis auf Santo Campioni als möglichen Komponisten danken wir der Musikabteilung der Bayerischen Staatsbibliothek herzlich). Dass sich ein Instrumentalist wie Santo Campioni auch als Komponist betätigte, wäre nicht ungewöhnlich. Der zu seiner Zeit berühmte und von Thomas Jefferson hoch geschätzte Komponist Carlo Antonio Campioni kann auf Grund seiner Lebensdaten (1720 bis 1788) ausgeschlossen werden, da die Widmungsempfängerin Auguste Amalie von Bayern (1788 bis 1851) erst durch ihre Heirat 1806 Vizekönigin von Italien wurde. Nach der Niederlage ihres Schwiegervaters Napoleon I. und angesichts der wachsenden antifranzösischen Stimmung verließ Auguste Amalie 1814 mit ihrem Mann Eugène-Rose de Beauharnais, seit 1805 Vizekönig von Italien, das Land und kehrte nach Bayern zurück. Daher ist die Entstehung der Handschrift auf die Zeit zwischen 1806 und 1814 zu datieren. Der einzige für uns zugängliche Hinweis auf die vorliegende Serenade findet sich im Nuovo Archivio Veneto: Sografi "aveva scritto anche un (?) Idillio e Serenata (2) a S. A. Augusta Amalia Beauharnais Viceregina d`Italia" (Simeone Antonio Sografi, Commediografo Padovano del secolo XVIII, 140). - Stellenweise leicht gebräunt, sonst sehr wohlerhalten und frisch. Sprache: Italienisch Gewicht in Gramm: 2000 Dekorativer dunkelgrüner Maroquinband der Zeit mit floraler Rückenvergoldung, Steh- und Innenkantenvergoldung, ornamentaler Deckelvergoldung mit kl. roten Intarsien, dreiseitig marmoriertem Schnitt und schönen Marmorpapiervorsätzen (Kanten leicht berieben).
