Porter married again in 1907 to childhood sweetheart Sarah (Sallie) Lindsey Coleman, whom he met again after revisiting his native state of North Carolina. Most of these are among Porter's earliest writings, from his time employed by the Houston Post (1895-1896); it was not until he was in prison due to embezzlement that he adopted his pen-name -- after which his books began appearing in 1904-1910 (the year of his death). This copy, in the primary red cloth binding (later copies were in orange cloth lettered in black), is in fine condition; the uncommon jacket is near-fine, with quite minor wear at the bottom edge.
