Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. First Edition. K5 - A first edition (complete numberline) hardcover book SIGNED by D. Michael Lindsay with "All my best," written on the title page in very good condition in very good dust jacket. Dust jacket and book have some bumped corners, light discoloration and shelf wear. 9.5"x6.5", 332 pages. Satisfaction Guaranteed. Evangelicals, once at the periphery of American life, now wield power in the White House and on Wall Street, at Harvard and in Hollywood. How have they reached the pinnacles of power in such a short time? And what does this mean for evangelicals - and for America? Drawing on personal interviews with an astonishing array of prominent Americans - including two former Presidents, dozens of political and government leaders, more than 100 top business executives, plus Hollywood moguls, intellectuals, athletes, and other powerful figures - D. Michael Lindsay shows first-hand how they are bringing their vision of moral leadership into the public square. This riveting volume tells us who the real evangelical power brokers are, how they rose to prominence, and what they're doing with their clout. Lindsay reveals that evangelicals are now at home in the executive suite and on the studio lot, and from those lofty perches they have used their influence, money, and ideas to build up the evangelical movement and introduce it to wider American society. They are leaders of powerful institutions and their goals are ambitious - to bring Christian principles to bear on virtually every aspect of American life. Along the way, the book is packed with fascinating stories and striking insights. Lindsay shows how evangelicals became a force in American foreign policy, how Fortune 500 companies are becoming faith-friendly, and how the new generation of the faithful is led by "cosmopolitan evangelicals." These are well-educated men and women who read both The New York Times and Christianity Today, and who are wary of the evangelical masses' penchant for polarizing rhetoric, apocalyptic pot-boilers, and bad Christian rock. Perhaps most startling is the importance of personal relationships between leaders - a quiet conversation after Bible study can have more impact than thousands of people marching in the streets. Faith in the Halls of Power takes us inside the rarified world of the evangelical elite - beyond the hysterical panic and chest-thumping pride - to give us the real story behind the evangelical ascendancy in America. Signed by the author, Peter Schweizer, with thick black Sharpie/marker at the center of the full title page. "Washington insiders operate by a proven credo: when a Peter Schweizer book drops, duck and brace for impact. For over a decade, the word of five-time New York Times bestselling investigative reporter Peter Schweizer has sent shock-waves through the political universe. Clinton Cash revealed the Clintons' international money flow, exposed global corruption, and sparked an FBI investigation. Secret Empires exposed bipartisan corruption and launched congressional investigations. And Throw Them All Out and Extortion prompted passage of the STOCK Act. Indeed, Schweizer's "follow the money" bombshell revelations have been featured on the front pages of the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal, and regularly appear on national news programs, including 60 Minutes. Now Schweizer and his team of seasoned investigators turn their focus to the nation's top progressives - politicians who strive to acquire more government power to achieve their political ends. Can they be trusted with more power? In Profiles in Corruption, Schweizer offers a deep-dive investigation into the private finances and secret deals of some of America's top political leaders. And, as usual, he doesn't disappoint, with never-before-reported revelations that uncover corruption and abuse of power - all backed up by a mountain of corporate documents and legal filings from around the globe. Learn about how they are making sweetheart deals, generating side incomes, bending the law to their own benefits, using legislation to advance their own interests, and much more. Profiles in Corruption contains tomorrow's headlines." - from the inner front and rear jacket flaps. Signed by Author(s).

First Edition, First Printing. Paperbound, 416 pages. Signed and inscribed by the author James Jennings Sheeran to fellow Hollywood executive Jack Valenti: ÒTo Jack Valenti, Master of All he surveys! Best - JJ SheeranÓ. From the library of film executive Jack Valenti with a Certificate of Authenticity. Sheeran includes mention of Valenti five time throughout the book with a dedicated section, #42 ÒWho is the CapitalÕs most voluble and visible association executive?Ó on pg. 42 and a photo of Jack and his wife on pg. 331 with the caption, ÒJack and Mary Margaret Valenti - laudatory, luminous, and lasting.Ó Illustrated. Fine copy in printed wrappers. Jack Valenti (1921-2007) is best known in his long-time role as President of the Motion Picture Association of America from 1966 to 2004. During his 38 year position in the MPAA, Valenti created the MPAA film rating system which is still used today. In 1963, Valenti was in the John F. Kennedy motorcade in Dallas, and he is seen in the famous photograph of Lyndon Johnson being sworn in as President on Air Force One. Valenti flew back to Washington with Johnson and literally lived in the White House for two months helping Johnson take the reins of the presidency. He was the first special assistant to President Johnson and served at JohnsonÕs direction as a liaison to the Republican Congressional leadership. Hollywood mogul and Democratic fundraiser Lew Wasserman pressured Lyndon Johnson to let Valenti leave in 1966 to run the MPAA. A striking and articulate man who easily made friends, Valenti became a figure of considerable influence in both Hollywood and Washington. Few people have known as many famous and powerful people as Valenti.

Both Mills and Winter were die-hard radicals and critics of American imperialism; Winter was married to both muckraking journalist Lincoln Steffens and humorist Donald Ogden-Stewart. Postcard from Ella Winter on her stationary dated Dec 17, 1970 addressed to Roger Luxton-Jones, Advertising Manager of the London Times, gifting him the book. She writes of it, "It may have been published in England also - I do not know. But you can see why I treasure it. And I have ordered a new copy for you from USA but of course that will take 4-6 weeks, and I can't wait, as to your cost you know. [initialed] E." A Very Good copy with a little dampstaining to margins at front of book, light rubbing, a few penciled brackets in margins, in a Good only jacket with chips, dampstaining to verso, single underline on front flap. A rare signature from the sociologist and Columbia University professor who popularized the term "New Left"; when he died at age 45 in 1962 he was already something of a celebrity and his body of work had informed popular culture as well as the discipline of sociology. The Power Elite is one of his best-known works, an examination of the 1% who drove American domestic and foreign policy and culture in the Cold War.
