Hardcover. Condition: Good. Early Reprint. Hard cover binding, leather spine, 360 pp. A fascinating manual for teachers of mathematics - could be used for gifted students, home-schooled students, with some really "new" twists on teaching mathematics and history combined. Not only are many of the manual techniques "forgotten" - what are we ever going to do without calculators! - but the problems themselves will lead to fascinating inquiries. For example, "The tune of Yankee Doodle was composed by a doctor of the British army to ridicule the Americans in 1755; how many years to the present time?" or for the more advanced student, "Suppose a gentleman's income to be 600 guineas a year, and that he spends 25s. 6d. per day, one day with another: how much will he have at the end of the year?" or "There are 1000 men besieged in a town with provisions for 5 weeks, allowing each man 16 ounces a day. If they are reinforced by 500 more and no relif can be offered till the end of 8 weeks, how many ounces must gi given daily to each man?" or "If I buy 1000 ells Flemish of linen for £90, what must be sold for per ell English, to make £10 by the purchase?" Well worn, still very useful. Good condition.

Hard Cover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. First Thus. Late 19th Century mathematics textbook written by a West Point and Columbia math professor. 1/4 brown leather spine with tan boards. Spine has mild rubbing, closed tear at head and heel is worn even with page edges; gilt-stamped title on spine is still bright. Boards are soiled and heavily rubbed along edges; page edges darkened and there is foxing and soiled spots throughout. Printed endpapers are still intact. Binding is fairly tight, no missing pages, and no markings are seen. Overall, a very nice copy of this antique math textbook. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
