Wayne Dyer, Author, Real Magic "In the tradition of Castaneda, Ruiz distills essential Toltec wisdom, expressing with clarity and impeccability what it means for men and women to live as peaceful warriors in the modern world." Dan Millman, Author, Way of the Peaceful Warrior Review: Sit at the foot of a native elder and listen as great wisdom of days long past is passed down. In The Four Agreements, shamanic teacher and healer Don Miguel Ruiz exposes self-limiting beliefs and presents a simple yet effective code of personal conduct learned from his Toltec ancestors. Full of grace and simple truth, this handsomely designed book makes a lovely gift for anyone making an elementary change in life, and it reads in a voice that you would expect from an indigenous shaman. The four agreements are these: Be impeccable with your word. Don't take anything personally. Don't make assumptions. Always do your best. It's the how and why one should do these things that make The Four Agreements worth reading and remembering. --P. Randall Cohan.

Hardcover. Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. Magical Passes - The Practical Wisdom of Ancient Mexico. 1st / 1st, Signed on Label; signature authenticated by FHE. HarperCollins, New York, 1998. ISBN 0060175842. Octavo, illustrated jacket, blue & white cloth boards, viii + 225 + 2pp. Thoroughly illustrated throughout with black & white 'Tensegrity' how-to photos. 'Signed' sticker on spine is easily removable, but I wouldn't do that because it was sold new as signed. Fine - and, in fact, could be called new, and pristine, because it is virtually so. But a bookseller is generally reluctant to call anything which is decades old "new". Those who are aware of the reclusiveness of the enigmatic Carlos Castaneda - author, most famously, of the trilogy describing his claimed adventures researching - and learning - shamanism (The Teachings of Don Juan: A Yaqui Way of Knowledge, A Separate Reality, and Journey to Ixtlan) might make one think no such recluse would ever sign a label to be placed in his book. But, in fact, he signed a number of such labels, in part because of that reclusiveness. This is one. The subject of 'Magical Passes - The Practical Wisdom of Ancient Mexico' is Tensegrity - a discipline for bringing one's inner spiritual to fuller bloom; it was developed by Castaneda along with his companions Florinda Donner- Grau, Carol Tiggs and Taisha Abelar. Much of what Catstaneda says he experienced is largely doubted now, and thought of as fiction (alternate realities, group-shared hallucinations while sharing a natural drug, etc). For me, it doesn't matter. What's important is the notions within that trilogy themselves. There are many mysteries in what he wrote, and many in his companions. As our favorite online reference - starts with a W- notes: "Florinda (Donner-Grau) and four other women who followed Castaneda disappeared from Los Angeles, California. One of the women's bodies, Patricia Lee Partin, was discovered in Death Valley in 2003, but the location of the rest remains a mystery. The last time Florinda was seen was the day after Castaneda's death." He died in early 1998, which means this book and two others published in 1998 were probably actually written in 1997. But, here, the man is just the larger part of the mystery. LT25. Signed by Author(s).
