Gary Snyder was a friend and correspondent of Lou, Harrison, and both had been students of the great calligrapher Lloyd Reynolds, and indeed this is written in attractive handwriting. Very good condition with slight shelf wear to back cover, otherwise clean text, no markings etc 5th Printing. Paperback.

Exner was an esteemed German poet, prose author, translator, and scholar of German literature who taught for a long time at UC Santa Barbara. In Snyder's papers there are a dozen letters from Exner and several poem manuscripts. Snyder also contributed to the volume Poetry Poetics Translation: Festschrift in Honor of Richard Exner, which was published by colleagues upon Exner's retirement from teaching UCSB. The Yuba River Country is of course Snyder's home ground near Nevada City. A very near fine book with a light bump to the upper outer text block face and a gentle crease/crimp along the spine on the front cover. Otherwise appears unread.
