Exner was an esteemed German poet, prose author, translator, and scholar of German literature who taught for a long time at UC Santa Barbara. In Snyder's papers there are a dozen letters from Exner and several poem manuscripts. Snyder also contributed to the volume Poetry Poetics Translation: Festschrift in Honor of Richard Exner, which was published by colleagues upon Exner's retirement from teaching UCSB. The Yuba River Country is of course Snyder's home ground near Nevada City. A very near fine book with a light bump to the upper outer text block face and a gentle crease/crimp along the spine on the front cover. Otherwise appears unread.
