An interesting manuscript poem from Robert Nathan, who in 1945 was working as a screenwriter while continuing to produce books of poetry and novels while in Culver City. As far as we can tell, this poem was unpublished, though there was a piece for four part chorus published in 1949 under the first line "Father of Us All" with words by Nathan. We were unable to identify the recipient, though the poem is a deep and touching meditation on the dropping of the bomb. Two 11x8.5" sheets, manuscript in pencil, signed by Nathan in Culver City, August 1945. Inscribed "Dear Miss P[?]" Sheets adhered to inside of black card folder, calligraphic label on front cover. Pages toned and stained, mostly in margins.
