De la bibliothèque de sa SAR le Duc de Gènes avec son étiquette en page de garde et son cachet Édition originale rare, sans son Atlas ; lors de la signature du traité de Campoformio en 1797, la France révolutionnaire a procédé à l'annexion des îles Ioniennes, situées le long des côtes de l'Albanie au nord, de l'Épire et de l'Acarnanie puis plus au large du Péloponnèse au sud, elles comprennent les célèbres îles de Corfou et celle de Cythère ; elles vont former trois départements français : Corcyre, Ithaque et Mer-Egée qui seront supprimés en 1802 à cause de leur perte en 1798 et 1799 ; de 1800 à 1807, les îles sont occupées par des forces russo-ottomanes ; en 1807, la Russie cède à nouveau ces îles à la France, mais dès 1807, l'archipel est occupé par la Grande-Bretagne, à l'exception de Corfou, que les anglais n'occupèrent qu'en 1814. Cet ouvrage est une des descriptions les plus fouillées, dans la plupart des domaines, de ces îles qui ont joué un grand rôle dans l'histoire de Venise et de la Grèce. André Grasset de Saint-Sauveur lived in Corfu for several years (1781-1798), while the islands was under French rule, and visited the rest of the Ionian islands during that time. A conscientious French state functionary, De Saint-Sauveur published a three-volume work on the islands in 1800, accompanied by an Atlas with illustrations.
