In contemporary light brown basket weave calf covers, floral motif and decorative blind tooling, corners and edges a little bumped and worn, a couple of leather scuffs front and rear. Respined, raised bands, blind and gilt tooling, title in gilt to green leather label. Internally, [5], (vi-viii), [1], 2- 284 pp, 48 pls (B&W etched plates), 4 maps (folding), green marbled end papers which is continued to text block edges, remains of faint bookplate marks to fpd, thick paper with full margins, faint sporadic edge browning, small chip to final blank. 2 vols bound as 1, (North & South Wales), each part having their own title page, but the pagination is continuous, paper watermarked 1809, plates dated 1811, printed by T Bensley. (340*272 mm). (Allibone 2820. 3140). Title continues: Accompanied by descriptions, historical, topographical and picturesque. Wood, John George, or Rev J. G. Wood, was a very prolific writer on natural history, though rather as a populariser than as a scientific investigator, and was in this way very successful.
