Fields signs Dily, one of his numerous aliases. Provenance: From the estate of Carlotta Monti, Fields' mistress during the 1930's and early 1940's. Carlotta and Fields separated for a time, when she relocated to New York in an attempt to establish a singing career. Although continually trying to lure her back, Fields stayed in Hollywood, fighting off depression, drinking heavily, and starring in such films as "You Can't Cheat an Honest Man" (1939), "My Little Chickadee" (1940), "The Bank Dick" (1940), "Never Give a Sucker an Even Break" (1941).
