Original printed program for an 1855 performance of the Stabat Mater, featuring the great Italian soprano Giulia Grisi (1811-1869). The performance was given at the Boston Music Hall by the Handel and Haydn Society. Includes lyrics inside the program. Printed bifolium (8" by 5.5"). Giulia Grisi (1811-1869) was born into a musical family and made her debut in 1828 as Emma in "Zelmira" by Rossini. The present program was part of her successful tour in the United States, where she was greeted as a major celebrity. The Stabat Mater was a fitting choice for Grisi, who had become a favorite of Rossini early on in her career and made his works part of her "brand" Good. Toned with dust soiling, a couple short tears.
