About a month and a half after General Grant's death, this regional military association from northwest Illinois whose county seat, Galena, became the Union hero's adopted hometown, held their third annual reunion. The 45…th Illinois Volunteer Infantry, known as the "Washburn Lead Mine Regiment," was formed in Galena in 1861 and saw much action before being mustered out in 1865; many Jo Daviess County men also joined the 96th Illinois Infantry Regiment, organized in 1862 and mustered out in 1865. Within a simple ruled border, this handbill lists events for the "First Day" ("Army dinner, and a general good time. Dress Parade. Grand Banquet." with numerous toasts from officers and others associated with the service, and best of all "Each speaker limited to five minutes) and the "Second Day" (including a Grand Review, Business Meeting of Association, Picnic Dinner, Annual Address by Gen. J.C. Smith and others, closing with a "Rousing Camp Fire"). Rarely seen and an attractive copy.
