Die dazugehörigen Konferenzberichte (Proceedings) wurden im Jahr 1961 unter dem Titel 'Progress in Very High Pressure Research' veröffentlicht. Die Herausgeber waren Pioniere auf diesem Gebiet. Thematische Schwerpunkte: (1) Entwicklung von Apparaturen für extrem hohe Drücke (wie die "Belt"-Apparatur). (2) Synthese von Materialien unter Hochdruck (z. B. künstliche Diamanten). (3) Physikalische und chemische Veränderungen von Materie bei Drücken von mehreren hunderttausend Atmosphären. Die Konferenz gilt als Meilenstein, da sie Experten aus verschiedenen Disziplinen zusammenbrachte, um die rasanten Fortschritte in der Erzeugung und Messung von statischen Drücken zu diskutieren, die kurz zuvor zur erfolgreichen Diamantsynthese geführt hatten. Die auf der Konferenz von 1960/1961 präsentierten Ergebnisse markierten den Übergang der Hochdruckforschung von einer rein akademischen Kuriosität zu einer Schlüsseltechnologie für die moderne Industrie. U. a. wurde in New York die Voraussetzungen für die Synthese anderer ultraharter Materialien, insbesondere kubisches Bornitrid (cBN) debattiert. Die praktische Bedeutung: da cBN im Gegensatz zu Diamant nicht mit Eisen reagiert, ermöglichte es die effiziente Bearbeitung von harten Stählen bei hohen Temperaturen ein entscheidender Fortschritt für den Maschinenbau.
