Add to basketPaperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This instructive book unpicks the persistent orthodoxies clinging to issues of religion, morality, and progress. The author elucidates the striking contrast between the conventional approach, which holds that all was created in a short period of time by a divine decree, and the modern view, which suggests the Earth developed gradually over many years. The modern view advocates utilizing our intelligence to ascertain the laws governing nature, and places less emphasis on prayer and intervention. The author relates this contrast to the wider subject of progress and reform, arguing that individuals must be encouraged to think and use their own reasoning powers, rather than relying on external sources of authority. This book is a valuable analysis of how our understanding of religion and science must evolve to keep pace with our expanding knowledge of humankind's place in the world. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
