Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. Author: Ann Radcliffe Title: The Mysteries of Udolpho: A Romance Publication Details: London: J. M. Dent & Sons Ltd, 1949. Everyman's Library, Nos. 865 and 866. Complete in two volumes. Description: A complete two-volume Everyman's Library edition of Ann Radcliffe's celebrated Gothic novel The Mysteries of Udolpho. First published in 1794, the novel is one of the defining works of Gothic literature, combining romance, mystery, psychological suspense and the dramatic landscapes and architecture for which Radcliffe's fiction became famous. Published by J. M. Dent & Sons Ltd in 1949, this attractive set comprises Volume One, Everyman's Library No. 865, and Volume Two, No. 866. Particularly pleasing is the survival of the original red Everyman's Library dust jackets on both volumes, with their distinctive black-and-white decorative illustrations and cream title panels. Binding: Publisher's original cloth bindings, complete with the original red printed dust jackets. Condition: Very Good books in Good to Very Good dust jackets. Both volumes appear sound and well preserved beneath their original jackets. The dust jackets are fully intact and retain strong red colouring, with the titles, numbering and decorative designs remaining clear. The jackets show expected age and handling wear, including rubbing, creasing, edge wear and a few small nicks. The Volume One dust jacket has a tear at the foot of the spine, together with some rubbing and minor wear at the edges, but remains otherwise intact. Volume Two also shows general rubbing and edge wear with a few small nicks, together with a small area of loss at the lower right corner of the cream rear panel. Both rear panels show age-toning and handling marks consistent with their age. Overall, an attractive and increasingly uncommon complete two-volume 1949 set retaining both original Everyman's Library dust jackets. Edition / Edition Note: Everyman's Library edition, 1949. Complete in two volumes, Nos. 865 and 866. J. M. Dent & Sons Ltd, London.…
