Hardcover. Condition: Good Minus. No Jacket. First Thus. Boards (HB) in good minus condition mainly for wear very top of spine, few chips and dings to page tops near spine and one missing corner. Former owners inscription inside cove.r None of this comprises the text of the book. Readers copy. Also has a nifty period bookplate from Haitian golf course. The Black Ulysses Trilogy presents a compendium of African American folklore collected by pioneer sociologist/folklorist Howard W. Odum. The trilogy collects stories, songs, and folktales, which Odum uses to weave the narrative of his chief informant John Wesley Gordon (Black Ulysses) as he travels the country, fights in World War I, and returns to the South. Odum's character demonstrates the extent to which folklore subjects and folklore style were part of his daily life. The book partially anticipates Zora Neale Hurston's Mules and Men (1935), which placed folk materials in a narrative connected to Hurston. Odum, however, steps back from the narrative and allows his character to speak in a rich and energetic dialect. Rainbow Round My Shoulder presents a feisty, inventive, marginalized folk hero with a zest for life. 323 pages.

Hardcover. Condition: Like New. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. First edition. With bookplate on front end paper; inscribed "God bless you Dale Evans Rogers". Dale recounts how God's grace enabled her to find hope on less than happy trails, such as her rocky rise to stardom in Hollywood's golden era, the tragic deaths of three of her children, and recently, her grueling rehabilitation from her stroke. She also lovingly pays tribute to Roy Rogers, with whom she shared almost fifty-one years of marriage. Dale Evans Rogers (1912 ? 2001) was an American actress, singer, and songwriter. For her contribution to radio, Evans has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6638 Hollywood Blvd. She received a second star at 1737 Vine St. for her contribution to the television industry. In 1976, she was inducted into the Western Performers Hall of Fame at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. In 1995, she was inducted into the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame in Fort Worth, Texas. In 1997, she was inducted into the Texas Trail of Fame. She ranked No. 34 on CMT's 40 Greatest Women in Country Music in 2002. In 2001, a Golden Palm Star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars was dedicated to her and Roy Rogers. In 2018, she was inducted into the National Multicultural Western Heritage Museum. Signed copies, without gift inscription, rarely offered. Signed by Author.
