Original beige and brown-maroon paper dust jacket included. Brown-maroon lettering on dust jacket spine. Dust jacket protected in a… paper-backed Mylar sleeve. 5 3/4" x 9." 102 pages, complete. Pages are virtually pristine and intact except for light age toning, a spot of surface rubbing on front pastedown, offsetting on back endpaper, and a small bookseller's ticket tipped in on back pastedown (from The Booke Shop, Providence). Covers are virtually pristine and intact except for slight rubbing to gilt lettering on spine. Dust jacket is clean and intact overall but has light to moderate age toning, surface rubbing and a two tiny holes on back panel (rubbing and holes affect text but only a small portion), some small chips and bumps along edges, and a tiny dampstain on front flap. A Near Fine book in a Very Good dust jacket. This is a collection of poetry by American poet Robert Frost (1874-1963). Frost was a four-time recipient of the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry and was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature thirty-one times. A Further Range earned Frost's his 1937 Pulitzer Prize. A Further Range contains Frost's signature style of writing and themes about rural Americana. Some of the poems herein also reflect contemporary political themes and issues such as the labor movement, New Deal, and continued encroachment of industrialization onto rural farm life. This anthology is divided into six main parts, "Taken Doubly," "Taken Singly," "Ten Mills," "The Outlands," "Build Soil," and "Afterthought." The parts each have a group of poems (or in the case of "Afterthought," one poem) listed under them. Poems under "Taken Doubly": "A Lone Striker," "Two Tramps in Mud Time," "The White-tailed Hornet," "A Blue Ribbon at Amesbury," "A Drumlin Woodchuck," "The Gold Hesperidee," "In Time of Cloudburst," "A Roadside Stand," "Departmental," "The Old Barn at the Bottom of the Fogs," "On the Heart's Beginning to Cloud the Mind," "The Figure in the Doorway," "At Woodward's Gardens," and "Record Stride." Poems under "Taken Singly": "Lost in Heaven," "Desert Places," "Leaves Compared with Flowers," "A Leaf Treader," "On Taking from the Top to Broaden the Base," "They Were Welcome to Their Belief," "The Strong Are Saying Nothing," "The Master Speed," "Moon Compasses," "Neither Out Far Nor In Deep," "Voice Ways," "Design," "On a Bird Singing in Its Sleep," "After-flakes," "Clear and Colder," "Unharvested," "There are Roughly Zones," "A Trial Run," "Not Quite Social," and "Provide Provide." Poems under "Ten Mills": "Precaution," "The Span of Life," "The Wrights' Biplane," "Assertive," "Evil Tendencies Cancel," "Pertinax," "Waspish," "One Guess," "The Hardship of Accounting," "Not All There," and "In Dives Dive." Poems under "The Outlands": "The Vindictives--The Andes," "The Bearer of Evil Tidings--The Himalayas," "Iris by Night--The Malverns (but these are only hills)," "Build Soil (As delivered at Columbia, May 31, 1932, before the National party conventions of that year)," and "To a Thinker." Poem under "Afterthought": "A Missive Missile.".

Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Poor. First Edition. The Story & Significance Published in 1936, Robert Frost?s A Further Range is a pivotal collection that earned the poet his third Pulitzer Prize . Dedicated to his wife, Elinor, the volume signaled a broadening of Frost?s horizons?moving beyond the regional…"New England" label to tackle political, social, and philosophical themes with his signature conversational poise. Containing iconic poems such as "Two Tramps in Mud Time," the collection explores the tension between individual labor and social duty. It remains a masterwork of 20th-century verse, showcasing Frost?s ability to find profound existential meaning in the simple rhythms of rural life. Physical Description & Provenance Edition: Stated First Edition (1936). Publisher: Henry Holt and Company, New York. Binding: Original red cloth with gold-stamped title labels. The book is in Good condition, exhibiting tight binding and only slight bumping to the corners. Dust Jacket: Original jacket in Poor condition. While present, it shows significant structural distress, including a large tear, old tape repairs, and staining. Condition Points: The internal state of the volume is excellent. The pages are crisp, clean, and entirely unmarked, making for a superior reading and study experience. Collector?s Note A Further Range is an essential pillar for any serious collection of modern American poetry. While the dust jacket for this copy has suffered over the decades, the presence of the original Holt jacket?even in poor state?is a noted attribute for collectors who prioritize completeness. The clean, unmarked pages and structural soundness of the red boards make this an ideal "working copy" for a bibliophile who values the tactile experience of a Pulitzer-winning first edition. It represents a highly accessible entry point for a cornerstone of the Frost canon.
