One page each, dated in 1898 on May 27th, June 14th, June 18th and July 22nd. Bifolia, with the written return address "34 Oxford Terrace, Hyde Park W.", each signed "Lloyd Osbourne." These four letters, addressed to "My dear Mackay" (the last one to "My dear Mac"), all have to do with Chatto & Windus's 1898 publication of THE STEVENSON READER (selections of RLS's prose and verse, illustrated with plates, edited by his stepson Lloyd Osbourne) -- about 3-1/2 years after RLS died in Samoa. Random quotes from the letters include "sent on to [RLS's financial agent and lawyer Charles] Baxter as Chairman in the Matter.", "sent him my list of 30 illustrations.", "C.B. tells me. meet again in his rooms. to take up the task of the picture book.", "Enclosed please find a note I received this morning from Blaikie [the printer]. I received the last batch of proofs yesterday. I corrected one and sent t'other to C.B." "Mackay" is most likely A.W. MacKay, a friend of Stevenson who earlier had emigrated from Scotland to Australia. The letters are in fine condition. See Beinecke 756, and also 1370.
