The vast universe of envelopes -- why knew? -- with 261 envelopes of a dazzling array of sizes (as long as fitting in the binder), materials, purposes. N.d., 1930s probably. Organized by type of envelope, the category indicated as a header of a page. 4to. 32.5 by 29.5 cm. Unpaginated, 24 card leaves, or 48 pages, each with mounted samples of envelopes, two to a dozen on the page. Categories include "Commercial Banker"; "Octavo, Large, Medium and Royal Court" for stationery appropriate for both business and personal use and enclosing cards such as Get Well and Birthday cards; "Printed Paper Rate Banker"; "Window Banker"; "Aperture Banker"; "Air Mail"; "Long Pocket"; "Seed Packing Pocket", "Photographic. . . "; "Filex X-Ray Storage"; "Packing Supplies Bags"; etc. Some of the bag types or styles are no longer in wide use, and some of the envelopes may today be obsolete. Other than documenting a pedestrian piece of physical culture from the middle of the last century, some of the envelopes have a visual appeal, such as the seed packets. Specs are generally printed on the envelopes.
