In this study of 25 animals changes in circulating red cell volume, reticulocyte level, and osmotic fragility following acute blood loss are reported. Significant decreases in the osmotic fragility of the red blood cells occurred coincident with the production of a new red blood cell population. The observed increase in osmotic resistance appears to be related not only to the increased number of reticulocytes but also to the large number of new erythrocytes present. It is apparent that this new red cell population, as measured or estimated, is greatly in excess of the reticulocyte level. these studies also demonstrate the sustained and rapid regeneration rate of red blood cells in the young rat subjected to acute blood loss. The United States Naval Radiological Defense Laboratory (NRDL) was an early military lab created to study the effects of radiation and nuclear weapons. The facility was based at the Hunter's Point Naval Shipyard in San Francisco, California. The NRDL was formed in 1946 to manage testing, decontamination, and disposition of US Navy ships contaminated by the Operation Crossroads nuclear tests in the Pacific. A number of ships that survived the atomic detonations were towed to Hunter's Point for detailed study and decontamination. The first use of radioactive materials at NRDL predated the issuing of licenses by the Atomic Energy Commission, but the AEC later issued licenses for a broad spectrum of radioactive materials to be used in research at the NRDL. Radioactive materials specific to nuclear weapon testing were exempted from AEC licensing.

Gr.-8°, Original-Pappband. 1. Aufl. 272 S. : Ill., graph. Darst. ; 25 cm Ein offensichtlich ungelesenes, sauberes und solides Exemplar. Nur geringfügige, unwesentliche äußerl. Lagerspuren, innen tadellos. AutorInnen der Beiträge: Karl Aiginger, Hannes Androsch, Brigitte Bach, Othmar Commenda, Johannes Gadner, Ludovit Garzik, Wilhelm Geiger, Andreas Gemes, Thiemo Gropp, Christian Keuschnigg, Christoph Kratky, Hannes Leo, Elke Loichinger, Wolfgang Lutz, Bernd Marin, Konrad Mitschka, Rainer Münz, Theo Öhlinger, Konrad Osterwalder, Anton Pelinka, Stefan Punz, Gerhard Reitschuler, Bettina Ruttensteiner-Poller, Bernd Schilcher, Walter Schneider, Peter Schwab, Peter Skalicky, Christiane Spiel, Klaus Unterberger, Jouni Välijärvi, Marion Weissenberger-Eibl, Gabriele Zuna-Kratky. Hardcover. First Edition. 287 pages. Index. "An attempt to tell the almost complete story of the part pseudo Americans have played, and are playing, in the Communist conspiracy to destroy the American way of life, and to turn the United States of America over to the War Lords of Moscow. The book publishing industry, even today, is completely red, pink, orange or yellow. Not a single orthodox publisher would handle RED RAT RACE - and not in every case because it put the finger on disloyal 'Americans' in high places. Rather, those book houses not owned by Communist dupes and sympathizers lacked totally the intestinal fortitude to stand up against Communist abuse and vilification." - Preface. Includes an extensive list of alleged Communist front organizations and publications. Interesting chapter names include: Ten Thousand Little Stalins, Little Old Red Schoolhouse, China Sellout, Atom Bums, The America Last Club, and more. Average wear to maroon faux leather boards.
