Fine oblong etching; Maria is seated at center, the Christ Child on her lap, an angel offering Jesus fruit, St. Joseph is sleeping at right; at lower left signed in the plate "I.C. Storer F.". 12,1 x 16,2 cm.*Nagler XIX, 521, No. 1: "Im alten Drucke von der grössten Seltenheit". Extremely rare. The Baroque painter, draughtsman for prints and occasional etcher Johann Christoph Storer worked especially for the Order of the Jesuits. He was trained by his father in Konstanz, worked for many years in Milano, 1657 returned to Konstanz for good. He made numerous frescoes and paintings for churches in Milano and also in Bergamo and Pavia. After his return to Konstanz he made many paintings for churches in Germany: Konstanz, Ottobeuren, Landshut, Kempten, Augsburg, Würzburg, München and Luzern in Switzerland, etc. (see also: Thieme-Becker XXXII, 123-125). - Some brown spots, with margins, tear in blank lower right corner just touching the plate-mark, image intact.[(5951)].
