Traduction par Anne-François Duperrier-Dumouriez de ce poème imitant "Le Roland furieux" de l'Arioste. Une querelle éclata en Italie au début du XVIIIème siècle pour savoir qui, entre Le Tasse et l'Arioste, était le meilleur écrivain du XVIème siècle. Le cardinal Forteguerri (1674-1735) prit le parti du Tasse et décida d'imiter l'Arioste pour prouver la facilité de son style. L'édition originale en italien parut en 1738, la première en français en 1766.
