Cloth. Condition: Very Good. Not Stated (illustrator). First edition. A special limited edition of Charles Edward Montague's anti-war novel, signed by the author. No. 259 of 260 copies of the special edition of this work in the publisher's original cloth binding. Signed by the author to the limitations page. This science fiction novel details a war between two fictional republics of England. The anti-military sentiment of the work shows the author's pacifism. Charles Edward Montague (1867-1928) wrote novels, essays and articles with a particular emphasis on his opposition to war. In the belief that he would be aiding a swift resolution to the First World War, Montague fought despite being too old to enlist, and later became an armed escort for important people visiting the battlefield, amongst them H. G. Wells and George Bernard Shaw. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, generally smart with marks to the boards and fading to the spine. Scattered spots to the paste downs. Offsetting to the end papers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are untrimmed, with the odd spot to the fore edge, but are otherwise bright and clean. Very Good. signed by author. book.
