Fifty years ago Gavin Maxwell (1914-69), a Scottish naturalist, traveller and author, went to live in an abandoned house on a shingle beach on the west coast of Scotland. A haven for wildlife, he named his home Camusfearna and settled there with the otters Mij, Edal and Teko. 'Ring of Bright Water' chronicles Gavin Maxwell's first ten years with the otters and touched the hearts of readers the world over, brilliantly evoking life with these playful animals in this natural paradise. Two further volumes followed bringing the story full circle telling of the difficult last years and the final abandonment of the settlement. Gavin Maxwell is widely credited with saving the otter as a species in the UK and their subsequent conservation and protection. Scarce in these first impressions. Three heavy hardbacks, extra postage will be required.

First Edition
First editions, first printings. Published by Longmans between 1960-68. This is a very good set. The first volume has some minor creasing to the top and tail edges of the spine and a little chipping and has not been price clipped. Volume 3 has been clipped. The boards are free from notable chips and marks. None have inscriptions. Each of the text blocks are mostly clean but with sparse foxing throughout. Overall, this is a very good set. The trilogy recounts adventures and misadventures with otters on the west coast of Scotland, and further afield in North Africa and Majorca.
