Hardcover. Condition: As New. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. Signed. 42 pages. Published in 1996. Retrospective collection of short stories, presented as an Artist Book. The single most beautifully produced book of Robert Olen Butler's work. Deluxe Cased Edition of 26 lettered and signed copies. Precedes and should not be confused with the Limited Edition of 250 numbered and signed copies. There is no ISBN. The Deluxe Edition is now rare. An exquisite production by Dwight Agner: Regular-sized volume format. Hand-marbled pictorial boards with brown cloth overboards and gilt titles on the spine, as issued. Short stories by Robert Olen Butler. Three engravings by Barry Moser. Handmade case and matching box by Kannex Fung. Printed on Twinrocker Yale handmade paper by Wisteria Press of Decatur to the highest standards. Without DJ, as issued. Presents, in its ultimate collectible format, Robert Olen Butler's "Coffee, Cigarettes, And A Run In The Park". The title refers to specific narrative details of the stories. The author's first short story, "Moving Day", is supplemented with two more early pieces: "Salem" and "Missing". The luxurious production of this volume cannot be improved upon: It fittingly memorializes Robert Olen Butler's earliest works for posterity. By his own admission, "Moving Day" (1974) was "the only good piece of short fiction I wrote in the first seventeen years of my career". He now has one of the most distinguished bodies of work among American writers to speak of. This book is his tender remembrance of two fundamental aspects of his career: First, his Vietnam memories and experiences, which find their fullest expression in his Pulitzer Prize-winning, "A Good Scent From A Strange Mountain". Second, when and how he found his literary voice, which he asserts always comes from one's unconscious (rather than one's intellect). An absolute "must-have" title for Robert Olen Butler collectors. This is a copy of the Deluxe Cased Edition of 26 lettered and signed copies, indicated as such on the Back Limitation Page: Letter "O". It is very boldly and beautifully signed in black fountain pen by Robert Olen Butler. It is also very prominently and beautifully signed in black ink-pen by Barry Moser. The latter contributed three lovely engravings that are laid-in, all signed on recto by Barry Moser. This title is a great collection. This is one of very few copies of the Deluxe Edition still available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. A rare signed set thus. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize For Literature for "A Good Scent From A Strange Mountain" in 1993. One of the most brilliant writers of our time. A fine collectible set. (SEE ALSO OTHER ROBERT OLEN BUTLER TITLES IN OUR CATALOG). Signed by Author.
