No Binding. Condition: Very Good. Signed as "Robert W. Miers" in black ink on both letters. Collection of two original letters typed in purple and blue ink on beige paper. Letters are datelined April 13, 1903 (typed in purple ink) and September 4, 1904 (typed in blue ink; "1903" corrected to "1904" with pencil) in Bloomington, Indiana. 8" x 10 1/2." Unpaginated. Each letter is one page (typed on one leaf of paper on front only). The 1903 letter is clean and intact overall but has a diagonal crease measuring about 5" and a tiny hole in lower-left corner, a piece (not affecting any text) missing in upper-right corner, a few tiny closed tears along edges, two horizontal fold lines (likely original), slight darkening and a small stain on back, and moderate age toning. The 1904 letter is very clean and intact except for light age toning, slight darkening on back, a few small smudges, a few bumps at bottom edge and lower-left corner, and two horizontal fold line (likely original). Each letter is Very Good. This is a set of two typed letters signed by Robert W. Miers and addressed to Richard B. Webster, the latter of whom was an American military officer. Each letter is relatively brief and only about one paragraph in length. The 1903 letter shows that Webster is in Fort Logan, Colorado. This letter has a printed header of the Committee on Invalid Pensions, U.S. House of Representatives. In the 1903 letter, Miers commends Webster for passing his preliminary examination and receiving a recommendation by the Board. Miers writes that he has also recommended Webster to the Adjutant General. The 1904 letter shows that Webster is in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. This letter has Miers's personalized header on U.S. House of Representatives stationery. In the 1904 letter, Miers responds to Webster and writes that he has sent a letter of recommendation to the Adjutant General. Miers writes that he hopes Webster will pass another examination and be appointed Second Lieutenant. Robert W. Miers (1848-1930) was an American attorney and politician. Miers served as a member of the Indiana House of Representatives in 1879, judge of the 10th Circuit of Indiana from 1883-1896, and a United States Representative from Indiana from 1897-1905 (the 1903 letter shows Miers as a member of the 57th Congress). Miers was a Democrat. Signed by Author(s).

Exhibition catalog for the second one-man retrospective of Indiana's works, which traveled to five museums between September 1977 at the University Art Museum in Austin concluding at The Art Center in South Bend IN in July 1978. Features full-page color illustrations of Indiana's Highball on the Redball Manifest (1963); Art (1972): The Demuth American Dream No. 5 (1963): The Dietary (1962); Year of Meteors (1961); The Metamorphosis of Norma Jean Mortenson (1967); and Decade: Autoportrait (1965, 1972-75) and numerous b/w illustrations. Includes a chronology and checklist of Indiana's work. Robert L. B. Tobin was a notable San Antonio philanthropist (the Tobin Wing at the McNay Art Museum was opened in his honor in 1988). Tobin underwrote 'Don Carlos' for the opening celebration of HemisFair, the official World's Fair, in 1968 where he served as Cultural Vice-President. Robert Indiana was commissioned to create the official poster for HemisFair, during which the largest collection of Indiana's work to date was installed at the McNay Art Museum. With Tobin's involvement with HemisFair, and his close ties to the McNay, it is perhaps during this time that Tobin's friendship with Robert Indiana began to flourish. In the coming years, Tobin became one of Robert Indiana's largest collectors and a number of his paintings and graphics are included in this exhibition.

This rare screenprint by Robert Indiana, dates from 1962 and represents one of the earliest and most iconic examples of Indiana s graphic language. *** Hand-signed in pencil by the artist on the reverse ( visible through the transparent plexiglass back of the custom frame ) *** The back of the artwork also features the handwritten word LOVE , mirroring the front and emphasizing the concepts circularity and visual impact *** The work is a Vorzugsausgabe (special edition), directly from Estate of Robert Indiana, ensuring authenticity and provenance. *** Executed in bold black and white, the work features a central star encircled by the stenciled text STABLE 16 OCTOBER 62, with the artist s name INDIANA prominently placed at the bottom. *** The strong, stencil-like typography is a hallmark of Indiana s visual vocabulary, drawing from American road signs, advertisements, and vernacular design. *** STABLE refers to the legendary Stable Gallery in New York, where Indiana exhibited alongside other leading figures of the Pop Art movement. This period marked the breakthrough of Indiana s career, establishing him as a key voice in American Pop through his exploration of language, symbols, and national identity. *** The graphic simplicity of the star and lettering is charged with layered meaning: a reflection on American ideals, power, and the cultural landscape of the 1960s. The work anticipates Indiana s later masterpieces, including his world-famous LOVE series, by demonstrating his ability to distill complex ideas into universal symbols with striking visual clarity. *** The work is professionally framed to museum standards, in a custom, handcrafted black wooden frame with double Plexiglas® Optical HC, offering UV protection, scratch resistance, and minimal reflection. Four large numerals 6, 6, 6, and 9 are arranged in a diamond-shaped grid, each encased in a circular form that radiates with bold Pop Art contrast. The combination of geometric balance, saturated color, and symbolic ambiguity invites multiple interpretations: from playful graphic rhythm to deeper numerological or conceptual undertones. Indiana s use of numbers transcends their literal meaning, transforming them into powerful visual icons. *** Robert Indiana (1928 2018) was a central figure in American Pop Art, celebrated for his text-based works and iconic imagery. Best known for his LOVE series, Indiana used words and numbers as vehicles for exploring themes of identity, American culture, commercialism, and the power of language.
