Mireles musical verses and sensible poems were designed to be published between 1956 and 1958 as an illustrated edition with full page prints by Katz (b. Brazil 1926), although the initial project was never concluded. Here for the first time the book appears as originally intended. Mireles (b. Brazil 1901-1964), used the medieval Iberian literature genre of the "Romances" (epic lyrics), the author writes about the 18th century revolt in Minas Gerais and the epic episodes that turned the defeated into Independence heroes condemning the colonial bourgeois greed and cruelty. Esta primeira edição ilustrada . é comemorativa do cinqüentenário do poema, publicado pela primeira vez em 1953. As ilustrações criadas por Renina Katz datam de 1956 a 1958, mas só agora vêm a ser publicadas".
