The fifth edition of this work in a quarter calf binding. Gaston Boissier (1823-1908) was a French historian and philologist, who wrote a number of successful works on Roman history. In this work, written in the original French, he takes the reader on 'archaeological walks' through Rome and Pompeii. Bookplate of the Right Hon. Sir Ronald Charles Lindsay served as British Ambassador to the United States of America from 1929 to 1939. He was the son of Sir James Lindsay (26th Earl of Crawford) and Emily Lindsay. In 1909 he married Martha Cameron. Martha was the daughter of James Donald Cameron and Elizabeth Sherman Cameron. Martha died in 1918. In 1924 he married Elizabeth Sherman Hoyt , daughter of Colgate Hoyt . In a quarter calf binding. Externally fairly smart, with a little shelf wear to the boards and extremities, and some rubbing to the spine. Internally, firmly bound.
