Inscribed by the author on the front endpaper clearly in blank ink "Carolyn Hartman in the name of the sizzies [signed] Carl Sandburg." The inscription relates to a passage on page 212 "Maybe you will hear the corn fairies going pla-sizzy." Small bump to the top corner of the latter half of the book, but the text is clean and unmarked. Contains a color frontispiece, eleven black and white full-page illustrations, and numerous small in-text illustrations in black and white, all by Maud and Miska Petersham. Carl Sandburg (1878-1967). The text was handset in Garamont from monotype cast by Gerald Giampa and the illustrations were printed in two colors from mezzotint engravings of the original pencil drawings. Oblong octavo: [32] pp. with 15 illustrations. Bound by Judith L. Johnson in blue cloth with an illustration inset on the front panel and a printed paper spine label. Near fine.

An omnibus edition of Sandburg's Rootabaga Stories with their original illustrations by the Petershams. In his inscription, Sandburg references the inscribees' similarity to "The White Horse Girl and the Blue Wind Boy.". Signed.
