Hardcover. Condition: Fair. Unpaginated notebook with only six first leaves used, the remaining 40 blank. One hand-coloured illustration, four b&w magazine or newspaper article illustrations. Two pages with handwritten notes, another with a newspaper book review attached. Half leather with marbled boards and gold lettering on spine that reads "Rye House Plot - 1683". Front board detached. Spine ends chipped. First pages and one illustration are detached. Pencil signature on front endpapers dated 1936. Colour illustration seems to be signed by H. Noble, 1835. The Rye House Plot of 1683 was a plan to assassinate King Charles II of England and his brother and heir, James, Duke of York. The owner of this scrapbook seems to have been doing historical research on the subject, with hand-written notes on Lord William Russell. That the historian was well-to-do is indicated by the use of this professional-looking, custom-made book with the subject of interest in gold lettering on the spine. Illustrations show the Rye House, Hertfordshire.
