The book will be welcomed wherever church organs are played, and especially in the North of England where Renn was so active. Samuel Renn, the son of a coachman, was born in 1786 at Kedleston Hall, near Derby, the house of his parents' employer. At the age of 13 he was sent to London to be apprenticed to his uncle, James Davis, a self-taught and highly successful organ-builder. In the course of time Davis retired and handed the business to Renn, who made the bold decision to leave London and set up his workshop in the northern wilderness near Manchester. This was 1822, when labourers from the country were flocking to the new industrial cities and cr.

Samuel Renn (10June 1786-11 January 1845) was an English organ builder who ran abusiness in Stockport, and later he traded in Manchester. Samuel Rennwas born in Kedleston, Derbyshire and in 1799 was apprenticed to hisuncle, James Davis, an organ builder in London. Renn became his foremanand supervised organ installations and maintenance in London and inLancashire. When Davis retired Renn went into partnership with JohnBoston and traded as Renn & Boston in Stockport from 1822 to 1825and then in Manchester. He died in Manchester in 1845.
