More First Books catalogue by 7 Gables Bookshop]. This, presumably, is his second book appearance. However, in a printed letter here, poet Witter Bynner, sponsor of the Witter Bynner Scholastic Poetry Prize, chose a Miss Dorothy Emerson as the most promising of the poets selected for inclusion here. In fact, Miss Emerson later became the Poetry Editor for Scholastic Magazine. Dorothy Agard Ansley later had a poem in Wierd Tales issue 1939 vol. 39 no. 1. G. Whitfield Cook here later worked as a novelist, and scriptwriter in Hollywood for Hitchcock.

Other promising high school writers given honorable mention but not published in the book included Jean Stafford and George Marion O'Donnell. Malamud's first appearance between hard covers; his first short stories were published in 1943. A very early appearance, 20 years before his first book, *The Natural*. Scarce in jacket.
