Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Stated First Edition with number line to 1. Signed and inscribed by the author, Mark K. Shriver. 273 numbered pages. 16 color and b&w photographs. Mark K. Shriver, the son of Sargent Shriver who was President Kennedy's brother-in-law and the vice presidential candidate when George McGovern ran for President in 1972 . Here's a little more about him from his Wikipedia profile: Sargent 'Shriver was the driving force behind the creation of the Peace Corps, he founded the Job Corps and Head Start and other programs as was the architect of Johnson's War on Poverty. He served as the United States Ambassador to France. During the 1972 U.S. presidential election, he was George McGovern's running mate as the Democratic Party's nominee for U.S. Vice President, replacing Thomas Eagleton who had resigned from the ticket. Both the book and the dust jacket are in very nice condition. The covers of the book are very clean. They have very little wear, just some crinkling at the spine ends and a tiny bump/crease at the two bottom corners. The gilt lettering on the spine is nicely bright. The cover edges and corners are in excellent shape. The page edges of perfectly clean. The book is square and the spine is straight. The book is very solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout, and nicely tight covers as well. The interior the book is in excellent condition. The pages are exceptionally clean. Scrolling through, I'm not finding any instances of soiling. I'm not seeing any creasing. There are no markings. No attachments of any kind. And the author's signed inscription represents only writing to be found anywhere in the book. The dust jacket is in solid shape. There is little crease off the front bottom edge, little crinkling at the top edge of the spine. There are no tears. The flaps are in excellent shape, a couple of tiny crinkles. The jacket is NOT price-clipped, not clipped at all. It will be fitted with a protective cover after the photos are scanned From the dust jacket: 'Sarge Shriver--founder of the Peace Corps and architect of President Johnson's War on Poverty--died in 2011 after a valiant fight with Alzheimer's, thousands of tributes poured in from friends and strangers worldwide. These tributes, which extolled the daily kindness and humanity of 'a good man,' moved his son Mark far more than those who lauded Sarge for his big-stage, headline-making accomplishments. After a lifetime searching for the path to his father's success in the public arena, Mark instead turns to a search for the secret of his father's joy, his devotion to others, and his sense of purpose. Mark discovers notes and letters from Sarge; hears personal stories from friends and family that zero in on the three guiding principles of Sarge's life--faith, hope, and love--and recounts moments with Sarge that now take on new value and poignancy. In the process, Mark discovers much about himself, as a father, as a husband, and as a social justice advocate. A Good Man is an inspirational and deeply personal story about a son discovering the true meaning of his father's legacy.'. Inscribed by Author(s).
