Soft cover. Condition: Good. 1st Edition. 78 type script pages with diagrams, tables and index. Folio (12 1/2" x 8 3/4") bound in original publisher's stapled wrappers. First edition. This covers the XIII Italian chess championship by correspondence with the history of the 12 previous championships. The game of correspondence chess was not widespread in Italy. So the author has not done a useless job picking up all the games played in the last Italian Championship by mail, which was 13 in the series - the first was played 23 years ago - and a good number of the best games played in the previous 12 championships. The correspondence game considerably affects the formation of the chess player, and, therefore, is important in the three phases of the game. With players, having a lot of time available for each move, they have the opportunity, by consulting books or publications, to study and learn the most important variations of the opening and the most typical endings, to get used to the analysis - even the most complicated - of the middle game, thus consolidating its theoretical and practical aspects. From the foregoing it follows that the enthusiast in the game of chess can get a lot of the game by correspondence where the moves that are very weak (or "oversights") are almost nonexistent and where those who win are those who perform more meticulous, patient and precise analysis. Condition: Ex libris copy of the Mechanics' Institute of San Francisco with their stamps and book plate, corners bumped and tape reinforced, else a good copy.
