This SCARCE very unique 84 pp. book, as the title states is a Play about war, set near the front during World War One. Embellished with nine beautiful wood-engravings, this is Limited to only 1000 cc. Light edgewear is visible on the uncommon dust jacket, but it presents quite well. There are 12 wood-engravings by Hughes-Stanton. Photos upon request.

Spine is believed to have been professionally repaired and strengthened. Rubbing to extremities of boards. Name - 'L Lewell?' written on free endpaper, Endpapers and one or two pages are lightly foxed/yellowed. Indentation to mid leading edge of both upper and lower boards.

A complete copy, illustrated with nine wood-engravings by Blair Hughes-Stanton, all present and in excellent, clean condition with strong impressions. Text pages are clean throughout with even age-toning as expected. Binding remains sound and firm. Externally, the cloth shows some fading, scuffs and wear to the spine and boards, consistent with age. No dust jacket. Endpapers show noticeable age-toning, offsetting, and mild cockling, consistent with age. A well-preserved example of this scarce illustrated war play, increasingly sought after for its striking wood engravings and limited print run.

Written by Velona Pilcher, an American writer and member of the Stanford Women's Relief Unit, working at the AEF hospital facility at Bazeilles-sur-Meuse. Illustrated by Blair Rowlands Hughes-Stanton, a major figure in the English wood-engraving revival in the twentieth century. In the original quarter red cloth binding with paper covered boards.
