Folded booklet measuring 10.5 x 7.5", map and photographic illustrations, pictorial covers. Additional leaflet laid in. Mild wear and soiling, slight chipping along two folds, very good overall. An ephemeral Japanese language guide to the Seattle shipping route, produced by the NYK Line, a major shipping company that linked Japan and the United States. According to "The Great Seattle Shipping Route," by Ikuo Sinmasu, "Nippon Yusen Kaisha's (NYK Shipping's) Seattle Route opened in 1896, connecting Seattle and Yokohama. The opening of the route triggered a rapid increase in the number of Nikkei immigrants to Seattle." The guide prints illustrations of the luxurious ocean liners operated by the company, as well as views of American cities and information on railway linkages used to access the rest of the United States from Seattle.
