"Elwin Telliffe, millionaire sportsman, dies suddenly after an indulgent, reckless, carefree existence, and at the same moment a young man in a far-away town, apparently a victim of amnesia, permanently loses all trace of his identity and all memory of his past. He wakes up to find himself in Telliffe's house, and remembers himself only as Telliffe".
