First edition. Adaptation of Connecticut folklore around the British revocation of their charter in 1687 in an attempt to control the New England colonies. The charter was hidden in an oak tree (now the Charter Oak Tree) by Sir Charles Wadsworth and could not be recovered and destroyed. This story also features the Wadsworth children and their Halloween prank on Goody Gifford, suspected witch. 8vo. 60pp. A Break-of-Day Book. Illustrated by Margot Tomes. Multi-color pictorial boards, some fading, near fine. In illustrated jacket with two closed tears and some rubbing, price whited out very good+.
