Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Unknown (illustrator). 1st Edition, Illustrated Edition. NB: The buyer will receive the book in the photos. Antique Book, copyright 1886, published circa 1889, titled Select Poems of Robert Browning Hardcover, 236 pages, Edited, with notes, by William J. Rolfe, A.M. and Heloise E. Hersey, and published by Harper & Brothers The Book Includes the Following: A portrait of Robert Browning, a Preface by Rolfe, dated 1886, an Introduction, and Notes. The following Browning poems are included: Herve Riel, Clive, How They Brought The Good News From Ghent to Aix, The Lost Leader, The Bishop Orders His Tomb At St. Praxed's Church, Rabbi Ben Ezra, Ben Karshook's Wisdom, Childe Roland To The Dark Tower Gate, The Boy And The Angel, Two Camels, Youth And Art, Song, May And Death, My Star, One Word More, Prospice, Invocation, A Wall, Prelude to Dramatic Idylls, and Pippa Passes. The book is in Excellent Used Condition (EUC) with some writing in ink on the front flyleaf and writing in pencil at several places throughout. There are smudges and scuffs on the front cover, but the back cover is mostly free of marks. There is some peeling and chipping on the edges of the boards and at the bumped corners, some browning/tanning of the pages and page edges and a back flyleaf has detached from the binding slightly (although it is still attached to the book). Overall, the book is in outstanding condition in light of it being over 120 years old at least. The book is square, the binding is tight and solid, and there are no missing pages. The lettering on the cover is bright, the red edging is very good although it has darkened along the top, and the lettering on the spine is very good. A point of interest involves the writing in book (by the original owner?) because the handwriting is very stylized. This may have been common in the late 18th or early 19th century, but it presents as unique today. See pics. This volume would make a superb addition to poetry lover's library or any antiquarian library. First come, first served. Cross posted. Smoke-free, pet-free home. Shipped in a box to protect the book as best as possible. Tracking provided. 5.25 x 6.75 x 0.5 inches, ~9 oz.

Hardcover. 519p., paperstock is somewhat acidic and toned and not yet fragile, texts are illustrated with a number of vignette woodblocks; reprint of an 1885 first issue, hardbound cased into 9x6 inch grey cloth boards decorated in black and titled gilt. A generally good copy; spine has a small blemish, back cover has a minute ding and lots of ight staining or offset soil, while the interior is perfectly clean, sound and tight. All in all, good to very good. The twenty or so images portraying correct gestures in elocution are unintentionally funny; and there's plenty of intentional.
