Seller: Star Cat Books, Bradford, VT, U.S.A.
First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. This is number 481 in Oxford University Press's series of The World's Classics. It is a selection of the poetry of Swinburne, with an introduction by Laurence Binyon. This is an inferred 1st printing. The series index at the end of the book lists no later books, which supports this as a 1st printing of the 1st edition. The book is in VG condition. This edition may have been released without a dust jacket, and there is none present. Dark blue boards are somewhat faded on the spine, and the end of the original bookmark ribbon is also faded. Gilt lettering on the spine is still clear. Original blue color of page tops is intact and there is no foxing. Light shelf rubbing at top and bottom of spine. Glue used in binding has caused uniform discoloration of front and back endpapers, and a past owner's signature is neatly written on the front endpaper. There is some spotting on front half-title page, and in the series index at the back of the book, but text is clear with no underlining and only reasonable age-related yellowing. This is a nice copy of an edition designed to be carried in the pocket, with thin yet strong paper intended for the serious academic as well as a casual lover of poetry, and it will make a good addition to a collection. 16mo - over 5¾ - 6¾" tall.
