Washington, D.C.: The Protestant, 1924. 72 pages. First edition. Printed wrappers. Near Fine condition. Biased biographical guide to those legislators of the United States Congress, 68th, 1st session, 1923-1924, many who are seen as antithetical to Protestant interests and/or advocating the cause of Roman Catholics. Politiciansand where they land on what side of the Burnett Immigration Bill, the "Gallivan Irish Petition", the Prohibition and Suffrage Amendments, etc.are skewered or lauded. Kentucky's John W.Langley's corrupt wife shows up on payday in a monogrammed limousine. Michigan's James Couzens foolishly endorsed reform efforts for being sponsored by "long-haired men and short-haired women, whose fanaticisms produce the most serious results." Senator Hiram W. Johnson of California "Voted for Borah Irish Resolution. Roman papers favored his presidential campaign in 1920." Wisconsin's Robert M. La Follette also voted for Borah Irish resolution and introduced "joint resolution for recognition of Sinn Fein Irish traitors to allied cause as the 'Irish Republic.'" In the plus column, Earle B. Mayfield of Texas is a "militant patriot, hated and viciously maligned by Roman propagandists for stalwart Protestant Americanism." OCLC, MSU only. Subsequent editions known in less than 10 copies.
