Condition: Very good. First printing. Inscribed advance review copy of the first edition of the influential pastiche, from the library of noted Sherlockian, BSI member since 1973, and retired US magistrate judge Andrew Peck. This copy was sent with the compliments and the signed card of novelist and editor Juris Jurjevics, who acquired Meyer's manuscript for Dutton "on a hunch that readers would clamor for a Sherlock Holmes revival" (Roberts). He was later to become the editor-in-chief at Dial (where he edited James Baldwin's last novel) "thanks to Nicholas Meyer's (The Seven Percent Solution) mother who intervened on Juris' behalf, apparently unknown to him at the time" (Gold). Scarce in this ARC issue. 8'' x 5.25''. Original ochre pictorial wrappers. Inscribed by Meyer on half-title page "For Andrew Peck - with my good Sherlockian wishes / from Nicholas Meyer." Publisher's notecard laid in, signed by Juris Jurjevics. Moderate spine lean, rippling to covers, light edgewear.
