Collects together six dark novelettes by Paul Finch Donald Pulker Andrew Hook Gary McMahon Adam L G Nevill and Rhys Hughes. SIGNED by Editor Gary Fry. First edition, first printing. "Edgar Allan Poe suggested that the short story was the ideal vehicle for the dark tale. This collection seeks to show how the longer short story, or the very short novel is ideally suited to the demands of creating an atmosphere, telling an involving tale and developing compelling characters. The authors here are all masters of their craft; they know how to combine economy with broad visions of fear. Six outstanding pieces from some of today's bleakest prodigies. Let the music commence." Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: fine. First Printing. 278p octavo, illustrated A fine copy in a fine dust jacket with wrinkling on the front flap. Inscribed by Brinnin as "John Malcolm". Laid in to the book are two long hand written letters to the same recipient, beautifully excuted in calligraphy by Brinnin, one of the letters finished with type. Included is another long letter to his friend plus three hand written post cards. Also included is another typed letter to another friend. Particularly enjoyable is a three page letter in similar calligraphy but this one from the recipient of Briinin's letters, and addressed to a bookseller with a heading "Re T N' Williams and Truman Capote" in which he writes gossip giving historical context to Capote's origins. Brinnin is remembered as a poet, and an anthologist of modern American-British poetry, who not only wrote ''Dylan Thomas an Intimate Journey in America'' but brought Thomas himself to America and accompanied him in traveling across the country.
