Lithographic title page and 23 further plates, all in color. Fair-good copy, paper-covered boards detached, scuffed, and browned from oxidation. Front and rear boards repeat two different illustrations from the plates. Title page and last plate still attached to the boards, all other plates are loose in the perished binding. Lower corner of one plate torn off, not affecting the image. Plates otherwise in clean condition. The shadows cast by the human figures offer a sarcastic or sometimes sympathetic counterpoint to the subject, e.g. a glutton in a plate entitled Beef casts a shadow resembling a bull. Small pencil gift inscription on front flyleaf from artist Jan Balet to his friend and fellow illustrator Joe Kaufman, dated '48 [1948].
