Binding tight, beige pictorial boards with paste-on of men shooting at Ashanti tribesmen.293 pp. plus 10 pages of another story by Frances Baden (One True Heart) plus ads. 8 illustrations, no date, but date on endpaper is Christmas 1910; the story of a white boy, Edward Ashton, who is taken captive by the Ashanti ( people of south-central Ghana) and must use all of his pluck to survive. From the seventeenth to the nineteenth centuries, much of the territory of the present-day country of Ghana belonged to the Ashanti Empire. Henty (1832-1902) was a Victorian literary phenomenon whose 144 books and myriad short stories have long enthralled adults and children alike. .
