Field loved entertaining people, sometimes with impersonations and other forms of humor. The revival of variety theatre in the late 1910s and earl…y 1920s allowed the young Field to become a master of sketch comedy and dialect. He worked as a comedian in regional music halls for nearly 30 years before becoming an overnight star following a role in London's West End. He appeared at the Royal Variety Performances in 1945 and 1946 but unfortunately died in Field inspired a generation of comedians. The tribute featured major stars of the day from both sides of the pond: Tommy Trinder, Arthur Askey, Judy Garland, Laurence OLivier, Douglas Fairbanks jr,Danny Kaye, Vivien Leigh, Orson Welles etc etc "COVER CREASE, COVER DETACHED , TEARS, INSIDE CLEAN AND TIGHT OTHERWISE".
