First edition, first printing (with Harcourt's requisite statement for former and latter's letter code "BCDE" - without the "A" - which, per Ahearn, was their contemporary practice between 1973-1983) INSCRIBED AND SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR. [8], 256 pages. Hardcover: H 21.75cm x L 14.75cm. Silver dust jacket rubbed with some soiling;… a few shallow chips at edges but with tears and bumping/creasing; toning to flaps; front flap retains publisher's printed price at its top right corner. Black cloth spine with vibrant silver stamping; gray boards toned at top and bottom margins. Text block edges foxed; light staining to bottom edges with rear leaves shallowly affected at margins. Endpapers toned. Author's warm but undated nine-line black ink signed inscription to a Tuscaloosa, Alabama resident (who apparently leased an apartment to the author) on half-title page; author additionally drew a single line across his printed name upon title page with his signature written immediately above. Interior pages are otherwise clean. Binding is firm. A vey good copy in a very good- dust jacket. THE SILVER GHOST is Chuck Kinder's uncommon second novel which, like his 1973 first novel SNAKEHUNTER, are both set in his native West Virginia. As further provenance to the inscribee's landlord-tenant relationship, Kinder received an appointment as writer-in-residence at the University of Alabama in 1978-1979 before joining the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh in 1980.
