Published as part of the Biblioteca Biográfica Venezolana for the 2010 Bicentennial of Venezuelan Independence, this volume presents Rafael Fernández Heres's clear and authoritative portrait of the educator and philosopher Simón Rodríguez, mentor to Simón Bolívar and one of the most original thinkers of the early republic. Drawing on decades of scholarship, Fernández Heres examines Rodríguez's pedagogical innovations, political philosophy, and transatlantic intellectual life, while situating his influence within broader Latin American educational reform and nation-building movements. This copy includes a warm and extensive presentation inscription dated 28 August 2006, expressing the giver's patriotic sentiment and admiration for Venezuela's intellectual heritage. Two pieces of laid-in ephemera accompany the book: a glossy promotional brochure for the Biblioteca Biográfica Venezolana series and a contemporary Venezuelan newspaper clipping (an editorial and a cartoon), offering a rich contextual snapshot of the period. Clean, bright wraps with only light rubbing to the edges and corners. Spine uncreased, binding firm and square. Interior pages show mild, even toning typical of the series with underlining and gift inscription on the front free endpaper. All laid-in ephemera (brochure and newspaper clipping-) present and well preserved. A strong, attractive example of this edition.
