Issued 1850, Weimar, Germany by Geographischen Instituts. Very fine and quite scarce original antique engraved celestial map. Great large-format engraving which is much scarcer than apparent. From a rare atlas. Original fold line as issued. Includes a detailed map of the surface of the moon as well as telescopic inset engraved views of the Comet of 1811 and the 1803 Zodiac Lights of 13 December as seen from Fort St. Cruz in Brazil (all so dated). Planetary system models at center and bottom corners. Sheet measures c. 27 3/4" W x 22 3/4" H. Engraved area measures c. 24 1/8" W x 20 7/8" H. [R35742].
