Pages are moderately tanned throughout. Thumb marking present. Occasional foxing. Pencil inscription to one of front free endpapers. Boards have mild edge wear with slight rubbing to surfaces. There is bumping to corners and crushing to spine ends. Tanning to spine and edges. Book has a slight forward lean.

Black endpapers. With 8 pages of publisher's adverts at the front. There is a thin frayed loss to the cloth at the head of the backstrip, and there is a small stain to the surface of the backstrip. The front free endpaper has a contemporary gift inscription. There is a small ink stamp on the first page of the text. Swinburne (1837-1909) was one of the most successful lyric poets of the Victorian era and was a leading symbol of rebellion against the conservative values of his time.
